OSHO Laughing Drums Celebration™
This is a unique, partially guided, process based on Osho’s explanation of how each of us hears the mother’s heartbeat while in the womb as our first experience of, and forever associated with, the beat of a drum. The drum is also the most primitive musical instrument. When you feel the drum beating, your body responds, sways and you start falling in tune with the beat, moving with the beat. Suddenly, you have become primitive, a natural being; all civilization drops.
The celebration is accompanied by its specific OSHO Laughing Drums music, which guides and energetically supports it.

Instructions:
The process lasts one hour and has three stages. After the last stage three gong beats will signal the end. Keep your eyes closed throughout. There is no whistling or shouting.
First stage: 15 minutes
Standing, feeling the connection to the earth and your feet on the ground, your awareness will be guided from one body part to another – starting with your head and ending with your feet. Allow each body part to move to the rhythm of the drums until finally your whole body is dancing.
At the end of this part, you will hear a gong beat. Now stand silently and relaxed, while Osho’s voice explains the connection between the drum beat and the heartbeat.
Second stage: 30 minutes
Dance to the rhythm of the drums. Involve your whole body. Each time the music stops, FREEZE and immediately bring your awareness to your heartbeat.
After each stop, the sound of the drums becomes more intense, and so will your heartbeat.
Third stage: 15 minutes
The music ends with one gong beat.
With your heartbeat racing, immediately lie down on your belly. Spread yourself on the floor. Feel your heart beating and observe it becoming slower and slower. Allow your whole body to sink into the earth as you breathe. Be quiet and still.
Osho explains about this celebration:
“The drum has a special appeal and the reason is very deep-rooted. You will have to understand it. When a child is conceived in the womb, the child grows, but he cannot breathe, he has to breathe through the mother. In fact, the mother breathes for him. For nine months continuously, he hears the beating of his mother’s heart. It is his first meeting with music and rhythm."
“For nine months the child goes on hearing the heartbeat of the mother. It is the first drum he encounters and it becomes very deep-rooted in his being. Every pore of his body is filled with it, every fiber of his body vibrates with it. He has no life except the mother’s heart. And the beating goes on continuously for nine months… Just think about it.
“The child is born and its whole body system, the mind system, carries the desire for the beat, for the rhythm of the mother’s heart. Mothers know, knowingly or unknowingly, whenever a child is restless, crying, weeping, uncontrollable, they have just to put his head on their chest and immediately the child goes to sleep, falls asleep. When he again hears the beat – the beat is soporific...
“Hence, from this deep biological experience of the child, comes the appeal of the drum. The drum is the oldest instrument of music; everything else has followed it. So whenever somebody is beating a drum, the temptation is too much – you start moving your legs, you start swaying your body. If the drummer is good and really knows how to create an atmosphere through the drumbeat, nobody can be there without being affected. Even a buddha would like to dance.”
